எங்கள் தேசமும் அவர்கள் தேசமும்

இன்றைய தி ஹிந்து தமிழ்ப் பதிப்பில் வே.வசந்தி தேவி அவர்களின் "எங்கள் குழந்தைகள், அவர்கள் குழந்தைகள்" என்ற கட்டுரை நம்முடைய தனிக் கவனத்தை வேண்டுகிறது. கல்வி பரவலாக்கப் பட வேண்டும் என்பதிலேயே ஒரு அரசியல் உண்டு. யாருக்கு எந்த மாதிரியான கல்வி தரப்பட வேண்டும் என்ற பாகுபாடுகள் சாதி, வர்க்கம், வசிக்கும் இடம் ஆகியவை பொறுத்தே தீர்மானிக்கும் ஒரு சமூகம் உருப்படாமல் போகும். பெரும் முதலாளித்துவ நாடுகளே கல்வியை தங்களது குழந்தைகளுக்கு உறுதிபடுத்தும் விடயத்தில் சோஷலிச நாடுகளின் மாதிரியை பின்பற்றும் பொழுது, இந்தியா ஏன் சாதி, பணம் போன்றவற்றால் தோற்றுவிக்கப்படும் ஏற்றத் தாழ்வுகள் கொண்ட கல்வி அமைப்பைப் பேணிக் காத்து வர வேண்டும்? 

வசந்தி தேவி பதில் சொல்கிறார்: "கொடிய அநீதியான சாதீய அமைப்பை தார்மீக அமைப்பு என்று ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளாக கொண்டாடியவர்களல்லவா நாம்!".
மத்திய வர்க்கத்து குழந்தை ஒன்று பிறந்தவுடனே போட்டி என்றால் என்னவென்று கற்றுக் கொள்ள வேண்டியிருக்கிறது. இந்த உலகில் வாழ போட்டியில் வெல்வது ஒன்றே வழி. "நீ ஜெயிப்பது மட்டும் முக்கியம் அல்ல; மற்றவர்கள் தோற்பது மிகவும் முக்கியம்" என்ற கல்வி அமைப்பு எப்படி மனிதர்களை உருவாக்க முடியும்? இதில் சிறந்த ஆசிரியன் நான் என்பவன் எல்லாம் சுத்த அயோக்கியனே. இந்த அமைப்பில் ஒரு பகுதியாக இருந்து கொண்டே 'நான் நல்லவன்' என்பது வடிகட்டிய அயோக்கியத்தனம்.
 
வாத்தியார்கள் இந்த அமைப்பில் மத்திய வர்க்கத்து பிள்ளைகளை போட்டியில் ஜெயிப்பவர்களாகவும், விளிம்பு நிலை மனிதர்களின் குழந்தைகள் போட்டியில் தோற்பதையும் உறுதி செய்யும் மனசாட்சி அற்ற "தூக்கு மரத் தொழிலாளிகளாகத்தான்" தெரிகிறார்கள்.
 
மருத்துவன் ஆக ஆசைப்படும் ஒரு மாணவன் பள்ளிப் பொதுத் தேர்வில் நூற்றுக்கு நூறு மதிப்பெண்கள் வாங்க வேண்டிய அவசியம் என்ன? அவன் ஆசைப்படுவது போதாதா? இந்தச் சமூகம் ஏன் அவனை மருத்துவனாக்க மறுக்கிறது? திறமை என்பது தானே சுரப்பதா? அல்லது உருவாக்கப்படுவதா? திறமை என்பதை வளர்த்துக் கொள்ள முடியும் என்றால், ஏன் அவனை சிறந்த மருத்துவனாக்க முடியாது? ஏன் மருத்துவக் கல்லூரிகள் ஆயிரக்கணக்கில் ஏற்படுத்தப்படவில்லை? அரசின் செலவில் மருத்துவம் படிக்கும் மாணவர்களில் பெரும்பான்மையோர் எப்படி வசதி கொண்டோரின் பிள்ளைகளாகவே இருக்கிறார்கள்? 

உண்மையில், சாதி மற்றும் வர்க்கம் மட்டும்தான் காரணம். இந்தப் போட்டியின் விதிகள் சாதிப் படி நிலைகளில் உயர்ந்திருப்போர் மற்றும் பணம் படைத்தோர் போன்றவர்களாலேயே உருவாக்கப் படுகிறது. "விதிகளை உருவாக்குவது நீயாக இருந்தால், எந்த விளையாட்டிலும் நீ வென்றுவிடலாம், ஜோயி!" என்ற மேற்கோளை சுட்டிக் காட்டும் வசந்தி தேவி அவர்கள் இந்த மொத்த அமைப்பின் சசடை சாட்டையால் வெளுக்கிறார்.

நான் உட்பட, யாருக்கும் இங்கே வெட்கமில்லை!

பெரியவர்களைப் பற்றி ஏடாகூடமாக எதுவும் பேசுதல் ஆகாது. அவர்களைப் பற்றி பொது கருத்துக்கு மாற்றாக எதுவும் பேசும் முன், ஜாக்கிரதையான ஆய்வுகள் நிறைய செய்தாக வேண்டும். மாற்று வரலாறு வெறும் கவர்ச்சியான வாய் சவடாலாக கருதப்படுவதற்கு வாய்ப்புகள் ஏராளம். அண்மையில் பொ.வேல்சாமியின் 'பொற்காலங்களும் இருண்ட காலங்களும்' படித்தேன். அதில் உள்ள கட்டுரைகளில் ஒன்று அயோத்திதாசர் அவர்களைப் பற்றியது. வ.உ.சி. அவர்கள் கப்பல் ஓட்டியதில் இருந்த அபத்தங்களைப் பற்றி கடுமையாக விமர்சிக்கும் அயோத்திதாசர் அவர்கள் நியாயமான வாதங்களை முன் வைத்திருப்பதாகவே தெரிகிறது. இந்த மாற்று வரலாறு ஏன் பொதுவெளியில் முன்வைக்கப்படவில்லை. அயோத்திதாசரைப் பற்றி தமிழ் நாடு பாடநூல் நிறுவனம் ஏன் கண்டுகொள்ளவேயில்லை? இந்நாள் முதல்வர்களும், முன்னாள் முதல்வர்களும் பாடப் பத்தகங்களுக்குள் புகுந்த நிலையில், அயோத்திதாசர் அவர்களுக்கு இடமில்லாதது நம்மால் புரிந்து கொள்ளக்கூடியதுதான்!

Just finished watching A BRIDGE TOO FAR. Around a dozen of Hollywood doyens are there in the cast. In the war theater of 1944, Allied Forces were keen to capture certain strategic places in Holland that were under the occupation of Germany. In this context, it was vital for them to keep Arnhem Bridge intact. Around 20,000 soldiers were airdropped 64 kilometers from the bridge. Cavalries and Infantries of the Allies march toward the bridge braving the ruthless guns of retreating Germans.

Richard Attenborough has directed the film. [the same man who made GANDHI]. Laurence Olivier, Sean Connery, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins are some of the mega stars of the movie. They all take you to the real war theater. So gripping! All movie buffs got to watch it!

Watched another movie recently. YOU’RE NOT YOU. Hillary Swank is in the cast. After a sweet phase of married life, she is suddenly diagnosed to be a patient of a muscular degenerative disease. She needs constant care of others. Her husband, she thinks, is her pillar of support. Though there were maids employed from time to time to bolster the support system.

With a maid opting out, a young lady whose looks are anything but conservative, chips in as the maid. At the very outset, she is disliked by the patient’s husband. Notwithstanding that, a deeper level of understanding develops between the patient and the new recruit. The patient is attracted to the progressive thoughts and freewill of her maid. And the maid, who has recently opted out of her graduate studies, stands attracted to high ethical standards the patient wishes to maintain.

On chancing upon the adultery adventures of her husband, the patient lady chases him out of the household. She now completely depends on the new maid who appears to defy any expected mores of this conventional society. But, over a period of time, both the women realize the deep bond that has grown between them and both are now determined to keep their bond intact, no matter what comes their way. After a while, the husband returns to his wife as a reformed man and pleads guilty. But she is not in a forgiving mood and opts for her maid-friend to expend the remaining days of her life.

Hillary Swank is absolutely brilliant!

My experience is definitely richer with this movie.
